Botanic Garden Open House at the Historic Barns Park on the Grand Traverse Commons
Saturday, September 17, 2011 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Please join us on the spectacular 25-acre site of the future Botanical Garden of Northwest Michigan as we host an Open House at the Historic Barns Park on the grounds of the old State Hospital, World-famous landscape architect, Warren Byrd, who designed the Historic Barns Park Master Site Plan as well as the Flight 93 Memorial and the St. Louis Citygarden, will be the key-note speaker at 11 a.m. that day. A series of gardening and environmental seminars will be presented throughout the day, along with exhibits, an inside look at the historic Cathedral Barn, a children's activity tent, food, music and much more.
Renderings will be displayed depicting the restoration of the Cathedral Barn and outdoor amphitheater as a venue for large, concerts, conferences, weddings, and other public events. Visitors will also see the plans for the renovation of the old Granary into a Visitor/Interpretive Center, and for restoration of the stone foundation of the old horse barn as a future walled garden, all projects that will be initiated over the next three years.
Explore the future Historic Barns Park as we "walk through the renderings" with guided walking or golf cart tours on the 56-acre park.
